Kings of war v2

Postby XavierM » Thu Sep 17, 2015 7:34 am

Tim and I played 1000 point game last night, ogres vs dwarfs.

Finished in 2 hours although reckon would be quicker once learned the rules.

Draw in the end with Tim managing to get a lot of points off my warn down units in the end.

Game looked good throughout, but counters are a must. Felt more like a fantasy battle game, and the ruleset is pretty clear.

Recommend giving it a go.

If the dice had been with me slightly more on nerve rolls, snake-eyes twice and 3 at least twice, then it'd have felt a lot more even from turn 4.

Definately a viable alternative, No question that a 1000 pt game would now take us more like a little over an hour than 2.

I'm glad i went down the route of adding magic items rather than vanilla units, meant my elementals did something useful, Regret not having a second inspiring hero for the rest of the army though, but i'm sure that i only felt that way because you had 3 of em and they kept screwing me over on nerve tests.

I'd stretch the "counters" comment you made to include unit cards/magic item cards while we're getting into it all.

As we discussed briefly at the end, seems like it'd lend well too our signature play style of "how many people can we cram around a 6*4 board to play"

Well we have 2 copies of the rules at Pigmar. Possible starter set coming as well.

As a club is there anything we need to get to help?

Probably very little, since a lot of the stuff we have that was/is used for WHFB works well for Kings of war (ie. terrain). The only thing that might be nice is replacing some of the grass mats since some of them are more like 4x5' now. More of a general remark though.

Do they just need a stretch out again or is it they've got damp and shrunk?

Good question, though I would go for damp. Not sure they'll stretch back out. Worth a go though I guess.
